EMS and Pediatric Trauma Care: An NC Performance Improvement Intervention and Evaluation

A collaborative effort to ensure the improvement of care provided to pediatric trauma patients in NC's Regionalized Trauma System of Care

This project is funded by The Department of Health and Human Services and Health Resources and Services Administration. This three year project began on September 1, 2010 and will end August 31, 2013. The EMSPIC will work in collaboration with WEPPA to achieve four primary project goals. First, is to identify and characterize health disparities provided by North Carolina EMS for injured pediatric patients. Second, is to develop, deploy, and evaluate an educational initiative to reduce identified disparities in the performance of NC EMS systems. This project will also evaluate the effectiveness of the above interventions by measuring changes in the magnitude and direction of disparities in emergency care for injured NC pediatric patients in a one year time frame, post intervention. Lastly, this project will package and disseminate the standards based educational and performance improvement tool for national use with revisions based on the results of the study. It will ensure the improvement of care provided to pediatric trauma patients in NC's Regionalized Trauma System of Care.
